Hey Rick!
I heard that you are performing a big gig at the Catalyst every Friday starting *this* Friday for a while... why don't you tell us all about it?

'PURPLE HAND's secret life in commercial music

well, this is a gig from my professional life. I'll be in the Catalyst 'house band' for the rest of the summer
from 9:30 -1:00 on Fridays playing a mixture of soul/funk/pop cover tunes with Joel Nelson, who is a multi-instrumentalist and also one of the larger entertainment porcuring contractors in the bay area. He
actually purchased the Catalyst three years ago and have never booked himself into the club until now.
I've never played with him before but he is a total pro who played a lot with Joe Sharino, a very popular covers band musician in our area.
It's an amazingly schizophrenic world for me right now that I'm loving: I just got my first bookings for the Rick Walker Trio, playing modal jazz from the 60's to now with the amazing acoustic bassist , Dan Robbins........
I've been making lo fi videos for my next abstract electronica release, ORANGE (due out in mid summer)
and i've been playing a hell of a lot of acoustic instruments and writing a lot of lyrics for a very quirky singer songwriter project that I want to do in the next couple of years.
The drumset, though, which as of next Christmas day, will have been in my life for 40 years, is suddenly making a huge comeback in my life after the last five years of found sound/live looping and electronic music.
My only regret is that I will be missing Defiance and Fate, my two favorite monthly goth events in Santa Cruz because they are alwasy on Friday nights. The money will be nice, at least!!!!!
Thanks for asking, Dante.
for those of you who don't know Dante , he is the impressario and DJ who has brought the wonderful Defiance to Santa Cruz and the South and Monterey Bay area's.
Defiance (held the third friday of the month) was incredbly fun this past week.
I'll try to come over in between set breaks to say hi once my gig starts.
yours, rick
